I LOVE MY LIFE WITH A PACEMAKER Hi Everyone!! My name is Jennifer Surette-Lemon and I have a pacemaker. I live in a city off of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron called Owen Sound in Ontario, Canada. My Story I'm 16 years old and have had a pacemaker for 13.5 years. Yuppers, that's right I got my first pacemaker implanted when I was two and a half. In 1989 I had my first pacer replaced as there was a defect in the make. I have the condition called bradycardia (I believe). When my first pacemaker was implanted it was kind of a new thing in Toronto, Ontario and so they put the wires in wrong. Instead of coming down they come up, now with my second pacer which the leads are done correctly it sometimes rubs against the old leads. I am a very outgoing, active person who loves working with children. I love to Wall Climb, play Basketball, Volleyball and swim. I am now learning how to skate, as my parents and doctors where paranoid and thought it would be best if I didn't skate when I was small incase I fell on my pacer. Ya well, I'm still here right? I don't let my pacemaker stop me from doing much, yes maybe I'm more careful not to over exert myself, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I do a lot of volunteering for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. I am the major spokes person for my area. Its funny actually, I wrote a letter to their main office a few years back complaining about an ad I saw about a grandson being happy to have his grandfather because his grandfather had a pacemaker. I took great offence to this. A lot of people think that heart disease and pacers are for the elderly, but hey wake up its the 21st century. My Motto is to live everyday to its fullest!!!! Jennifer That's Me!! I know a typical teenager, on the phone. :) |
